Overview

Finally, after seventeen years, a second cookbook of our Sisterhood Cookbook is ready in ebook form. Our first endeavor published in 2000 was called Meatless Delights of the Land and Sea and concentrated on fasting recipes which could help struggling Orthodox Christians be faithful to the lenten guidelines prescribed by the Church. After much deliberation and in response to frequent suggestions from our faithful customers at our yearly "Greek Food Fest" in 2015, we presented our Fasting, Feasting and Everything in Between cookbook incorporating many recipes from our first cookbook as well as additional non-fasting recipes provided by parishioners and friends alike.

We are a small close knit Traditional Orthodox Parish in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, which is blessed and supported by a dedicated Sisterhood under the patronage of Saints Basil the Great and Irene of Chrysovalantou. They labor for the upkeep and adornment of our beautiful temple through the culinary labors of their hands and bring a wealth of experience to the task. Within the scope of their experience we have accumulated delicious delicacies from the Greek, Slavic and Arabic traditions as well as from down home American favorites.

It is our hope that you will enjoy making and enjoying the great and tasty meals and treats which have delighted our parishioners at parish gatherings as well as our offerings to the public during our fund-raisers.

We wish to thank all who have labored in the preparation of this cookbook as well as all our valued customers from our local communities and those who purchase our cookbook now in ebook format. Ultimately it all goes to supporting the Orthodox witness of this parish community and to the glorification of the Holy Trinity our God.

About the Author

Pillars of Orthodoxy Greek Orthodox Church is filled with good cooks. The parish Sisterhood of Saints Basil and Irene have been serving Carlisle, PA and surrounding area with Greek, Slavic, Arabic and American delicacies. Our ethnic foods are a favorite at our annual parish Greek Food Festival for the last seventeen years and previously at malls and community gatherings since the 1970’s. Our parish membership includes several professional chefs who have also shared their recipes.

It was in 2000 that we published our first cookbook, Meatless Delights of Land and Sea, at the request of friends and family who desired some of our recipes. The cookbook sold out quickly.

For our recently published 2015 cookbook, we retained some of the old recipes and expanded it to include our non-vegetarian favorites almost doubling the number of recipes.

We now venture into ebook publishing as a new opportunity to share our delightful recipes.

The proceeds from cookbook sales go towards supporting the church and helping others.
