Overview

1000 years before the Babylonians, 1500 years before the Ancient Egyptians, 3,500 years before the Ancient Greeks, 4,000 years before the ancient Romans and Jesus, and 4,500 years before the Mayas, an advanced civilization existed that had technology well in advance of these other civilizations I have named. For us this means a civilization that existed 6,000 years ago. Normally, when we think about what life was like 6,000 years ago we think of cavemen living in caves since the Ancient Greeks and Romans were supposed to have started modern civilization. This book considers a civilization that is 3,000 years older than Ancient Greece and Rome.

This advanced civilization was started by the Sumerians who called themselves “the black head people”, and nobody knew where they came from, other than they were likely from the Zagros Mountains. Amidst nomads they settled in Sumer near the Persian Gulf and almost overnight an advanced civilization developed

The Sumerians ruled for about 2,000 years eventually being supplanted by the Babylonians. During these years the traditions and customs of the Sumerian has carried on in all cultures we have today.

Some of the Sumerian technological achievements would not be known for thousands of years. For instance, they invented writing, the wheel, treaties, and discovered the Pythagorean Theorem and quadratics which we attribute to Euclid who lived around 300 B.C.E., almost 2,200 years later. They also knew that the Earth was round and knew its position in the universe relative to other planets.

Who were these Sumerians and where did they learn this advanced technology? They left records of their culture beginning around 4,000 B.C.E. mostly using cuneiform writing on clay tablets in the form of stories, hymns, and prayers. They also left pictures on cylinder seals and pottery, and 3-dimesional items such as figurines and city ornaments. These all provided for a story or myths of their existence.

What this evidence reveals is a rich set of “myths” that are essentially the blueprints for the creation of civilization, or instructions of the rules and regulations to be implemented to start a civilization.

This book is based on the assumption that these stories are not myths but real stories. They were instructions written for us so we had knowledge about how we should create a civilization. As such this book attempts to dissect the myths to reveal what story these myths are really trying to inform us about. It appears that someone or a group of people went to great lengths to teach us these valuable lessons. I attempt to examine the stories in terms of scientific evidence that is available.
