About the Author

Rick Kollath started illustrating in nursery school and now he's lucky enough to draw pictures for a living. He runs a design studio in Duluth and co-owns Kollath-Stensaas Publishing with Sparky Stensaas. Rick has taught in Austria and traveled around Europe as a climbing bum. Now he gets thrills riding the big waves on the big lake in his little sea kayak.

Author-mycologist Lawrence Millman has written 15 books, including such titles as Last Places, Lost in the Arctic, Northern Latitudes and Our Like Will Not Be There Again. His articles have appeared in National Geographic, Smithsonian, Outside and The Atlantic Monthly. He has done mycological work in locations as diverse as the Canadian Arctic, Belize, Western Samoa, Alaska, Siberia, Costa Rica and Nantucket Island. His inventory of fungi at Wachusett Wildlife Sanctuary in Princeton, Massachusetts, currently numbers 490 species. He keeps a post office box in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
