About the Author

David Ollier Weber has been a Woodrow Wilson Fellow in English literature at Columbia University; an apprentice seaman aboard the Norwegian tramp steamer MS Tancred (he had the wheel watch between Scylla and Charybdis); a copyboy for the New York Times; operations officer and navigator aboard the U.S. Seventh Fleet destroyer USS HIGBEE (DD-806); a general assignment reporter for the Daily Review in Hayward, California; public relations representative for the Port of Oakland; editor of the employee magazine of Pacific Gas & Electric Company; and a free-lance journalist specializing in healthcare, science and medicine. He has owned classic wooden sailboats, Siberian huskies and chickens, felled redwood trees and built a house from the lumber, roasted his own coffee and remarried his ex-wife. For many years he suffered from a serious basketball addiction. A father of four and grandfather of two, he divides his time between the Sierra foothills and the Mendocino coast of California.
