Falling in Love with Myself
This is a story of the difficulties which an Italian prisoner-of-war, and later immigrant and his family, had to endure in South Africa, and the toll it took on the family, and on the author, his daughter, in particular.
It is especially an account of her battle to overcome the trauma of abuse during her childhood and youth, her years in an orphanage from age 7, and then growing up and rebelling against her father and the Sicilian culture he imposed on the family.
She describes with honesty and emotion how she later in life worked through loss and severe depression, learned to value her heritage, to forgive both herself and those close to her, and finally to accept and love herself as a complete and beautiful person.
Her story is one of trauma, depression, awareness, acceptance, forgiveness and ultimately of compassion and love.
