Overview

“Anyone who loves my work should love [Liu's].”*-Christine Feehan

Eye of Heaven*is yet another dark and sensuous romantic winner from the extraordinary Marjorie M. Lui, arguably one of the boldest, most inventively original authors currently working in the paranormal romance field. Centered once again around the remarkable Dirk and Steele Detective Agency-with its shapeshifters, psychics, telekinetics, and others with astounding* supernatural gifts-Eye of Heaven*brings a tormented investigator to “Sin City” Las Vegas, where a beautiful, feral headliner needs protection from a terrible darkness that is threatening her world. A passionate tale of romance, mystery, danger, and otherworldly occurrences, this is Marjorie M. Liu at her finest-and further proof that, “If you have yet to add Liu to your must-read list, you're doing yourself a disservice” (Booklist).

Editorial Reviews

The Barnes & Noble Review
Marjorie Liu, a fast-rising star in the land of paranormal romance, explores the ties that are stronger than blood in this action-packed Dirk & Steele novel. All the stories in this well-imagined series (Tiger Eye, Shadow Touch, The Red Heart of Jade) feature a member of the Dirk & Steele agency, each of whom possesses an abnormal or paranormal talent. This time it is Blue Perrineau, who can manipulate electricity with his thoughts. Newly awakened from a coma, Blue is blackmailed by his evil father into tracking down his other son, the one he never knew. Daniel is one of the stars in a small circus in Las Vegas; so is Iris McGillis, a shapeshifter (leopard) with a charismatic lion act. Blue saves Iris from an eco-terrorist, and the action kicks into even higher gear. Besides secret brothers, there are lost mothers and bad fathers against the backdrop of an international organ-smuggling plot, with exotic settings from Jakarta to Las Vegas. Still, true love is at the heart of Eye of Heaven, and readers will find the happiness these two lonely and talented outsiders find with each other immensely satisfying. Ginger Curwen

Publishers Weekly

Once again, Liu has managed a brilliant blend of fantasy, action and romance in her latest Dirk & Steele novel, which follows the members of a paranormal detective agency. When electrokinetically gifted agency detective Blue Perrineau is blackmailed by his father, dying billionaire Felix Perrineau, he's forced to track down Felix's other son, Daniel-the brother Blue never knew he had. His search for Daniel takes him to a small Las Vegas circus that features Iris McGillis, a slinky shape-shifter with a lion act and a global fan base. After Blue saves Iris from an ecoterrorist sniper, they form an instant attachment, but he runs into trouble when he finds Daniel and, later, a dangerous flesh peddler-both of whom also have plans for the hypnotically sexy Iris. Liu brings her skewed universe to life with skill and conviction, grounding the comic-book plot with fully realized personalities and the workaday details of circus life. Though a bit drawn out, this entry will undoubtedly please fans of the series and should provide a fresh thrill for anyone in the market for an extraordinary romance. (Dec.)
