Overview

Baptiste Molino has devoted his life to other people's happiness. Moored on his houseboat, he helps his clients navigate the waters of contentment, yet remains careful never to make waves of his own. However, it is Baptiste's new client, the elegant and enigmatic Amandine Rousseau, who is the puzzle he longs to solve. But when his mysterious birth mother's legacy finally reveals itself, he finds himself torn between pursuing his own happiness and safeguarding that of the one he loves.

Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

"Everything Love Is is a poignant and compelling story of love and happy endings that will truly capture your heart. . . . [King's] vivid descriptions will pull you into the story to witness the lives of the characters through their eyes." - San Francisco Book Review

"[A] beautifully rendered sophomore novel. . . King’s haunting and heart-rending—yet life-affirming—narrative is infused with poetic prose, philosophical insights and dual points of view that are initially puzzling. However, as she slowly distributes details—braiding the past, present and future of her well-drawn, amiable cast of characters—her enigmatic story gains startling clarity. King (The Night Rainbow) thoughtfully plumbs the tangled depths of the human psyche, the meaning of life and the evolution of love in its many incarnations." - Shelf Awareness

"The surefire bookclub pick of the season." - Flavorwire

"King’s elegant and poignant second novel (after The Night Rainbow, 2013) focuses on the utter fragility of passion, partnership, and memory. Admirably, King treats Baptiste’s descent into dementia with the utmost respect as she combines themes reminiscent of Nicholas Sparks' The Notebook and Lisa Genova’s Still Alice with lilting and lyrical prose." - Booklist

"Everything Love Is is clearly about everything love is, but it is also about everything we are – which, on reflection, is one and the same thing. A stunning, moving and beautifully written story which I have no hesitation in recommending *****" - Joanna Cannon, author of THE TROUBLE WITH GOATS AND SHEEP

"Simultaneously heartbreaking and uplifting" - San Francisco Book Review

"In Everything Love Is, Claire King creates a delicate portrait of a man in a quiet crisis of identity and memory . . . Claire King's France is endearing and colorful and although entirely modern, enchants the reader with a mystical quality reminiscent of Joann Harris' Chocolat. With elegant, lucid prose, she sets a tone that lifts the somber events into occasional whimsy . . . King does a masterful job of puzzling together how the past shapes our hearts and how memories shift as we learn to live with our present." - Washington Independent Review of Books

"[King's] writing is breathtaking, taking a simple story and making it a masterpiece. . . . [Everything Love Is] incorporates the essence of humanity and captures the human experience with emotional precision. Her prose is enough to make you stop and weep. Everything Love Is is a powerful testament to her storytelling skill and well worth the emotional anguish." - That's What She Read

"With Everything Love Is, King paints a true picture of the struggles of life, love, happiness, longing, and friendship. Things don't always go as planned or as desired, and the end is not always pretty. But it is real. And to that end, Everything Love Is is as affecting as they come." - Under the Radar

"Quirky, elegant and sweet: I loved it!" - Joanne Harris, author of CHOCOLAT on THE NIGHT RAINBOW

"An original, beguiling debut about the consequences of an imaginatively lived life" - Marie Claire on THE NIGHT RAINBOW

"Gorgeously written and deeply heartfelt." - Booklist on THE NIGHT RAINBOW

"This surprising and enchanting first novel is enthusiastically recommended." - Library Journal on THE NIGHT RAINBOW

"King's story of a young child's quest for a light in the profound darkness of her life reaches deep into the complexities of human consciousness." - starred review, Shelf Awareness on THE NIGHT RAINBOW
