About the Author

Serge Lafond was born in Chicoutimi, Quebec, and grew up amidst hardship. Chicoutimi is located approximately 140 miles north of Quebec City. At that time, and still, it was a very poor area and the work consisted uniquely of the bush and one aluminum company, but Serge dreamt of a life beyond the limitations of poverty. He found his calling in the Canadian Armed Forces, forging discipline and strength. After three years, a new yearning emerged to uphold the law and serve the community. This led him to the RCMP, where he embarked on a 31-year odyssey.
His journey spanned diverse landscapes and communities, immersing him in the richness of Canada. For 11 years, he spent patrolling streets, safeguarding citizens, and learning the intricacies of law enforcement and life in small communities.
But his spirit craved adventure. This led him to the tundra of Inuvik, Northwest Territories, where he participated in a Reindeer Roundup, a vital act of ecological balance. The harshness of the Arctic paled in comparison to the experience's cultural significance and the lessons it taught about resilience and adaptability.
Throughout his career, he sought opportunities for growth and service. He refused promotions to remain active in daily patrols, supporting his fellow officers. This passion for service and a dedication to self-improvement defined his life's journey, shaping him into a testament to the resilience and spirit of a true Canadian.
