This concise, easy-to-use guide illustrates how to perform more than 60 commonly used clinical procedures, including the newest trends in sonography-guided procedures in emergent, urgent, and ambulatory care settings. The procedures are consistently formatted, presented in step-by-step detail, and organized into system-specific categories for easy access to information. The second edition is the only resource that gives a comprehensive overview of bedside ultrasound, with two new chapters completely devoted to how it is used as a tool to enhance the accuracy of numerous procedures. About the Author

Theresa M Campo DNP, APRN, FAANP, FAAN is Chair of the Department of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and the Director of the Emergency Nurse Practitioner Track as well as Associate Clinical Professor at Drexel University. Clinically, she is board certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner and Emergency Nurse Practitioner, and works part-time as a nurse practitioner in Southern New Jersey.

Theresa received her Doctor of Nursing Practice from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. She earned her Master of Science in Nursing, Family Nurse Practitioner, from Widener University in Chester Pennsylvania. Theresa has over 30 years of experience in emergency medicine, including pre-hospital, emergency department/quick care, and trauma. Dr. Campo is a founding Board Member of the American Academy of Emergency Nurse Practitioners, a national organization. She is a national and international lecturer on emergency and urgent care topics. Dr. Campo is the Author of, "Medical Imaging for the Health Care Provider: Practical Radiograph Interpretation" and has authored several book chapters and peer-reviewed articles.

Theresa was inducted as a Fellow of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) in 2015 and Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing in 2017. She has received the alumni award for excellence from Case Western Reserve University and the state award of excellence from AANP.

Keith A. Lafferty, MD, FAAEM, is the Co-Director of Emergency Medicine at Gulf Coast Medical Center, Director of Fire-based EMS in Fort Myers Florida, Adjunct Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at Temple University, board member of the Holy Family University Pre-Medical committee, and board member of the Holy Family University President’s Advisory Committee. As a physician, Dr. Lafferty specializes in emergency medicine and practices in both Philadelphia and Ft Myers, Florida.

Description: This is an update of a 2011 guide to commonly performed clinical procedures, including sonography, in emergency, urgent, and ambulatory care settings. This edition adds ultrasonography and includes access to videos of procedures with narration.
Purpose: As noted in the foreword, the purpose is to provide a resource that offers background information, illustrations, and step-to-step instructions for providing safe and efficient treatment to patients in these care settings. Presenting the book in both print and online format adds value for a wider range of providers.
Audience: The audience includes novice and expert providers, advanced practice nursing students, residents, and physician assistants.
Features: This book covers the basic patient procedures, sonography, organ-specific management, and includes an excellent chapter on managing pain using injectable anesthetics. The patient presentation sections use a unique bulleted format. The pearls are the best part of the book.
Assessment: Overall, a great book, at a great price, and a welcome addition to student textbook, clinical resource, or personal libraries. The changes in this edition justify replacing the previous one. It is more concise than The Essential Guide to Primary Care Procedures, 2nd edition, Mayeaux (Wolters Kluwer, 2015), and it includes urgent and emergency procedures as well as procedures typically performed in primary care settings.
