Overview

Essence Tai Chi was created by Master Owen Liao, Ph.D. It is a Yang style Tai Chi and has only 15 movements. It covers all four directions and four corners. It is a whole body exercise. It takes about 8 to 10 hours to learn and only takes four minutes to perform. It only needs a 6’ x 6’ open space, so you can perform it in front of your TV set in the living room.
Tai Chi is the best general, all-purpose exercise for all ages -- from childhood to old age. It is a very gentle and calming exercise. The practice of Tai Chi improves the metabolism, evens the breath, and strengthens the body's circulation. It stimulates the cells deep within the body and massages the ligaments, joints and internal organs. During the practice of Tai Chi, the joints are bathed in chi resulting in clearing of the blockages in the acupuncture meridians. The resulting benefits provide an improvement in the quality of life: better health, better mobility, a longer life span and a happier disposition.
Among many styles of Tai Chi, Essence Tai Chi is the best known for improving and maintaining health. Immediate benefits can be achieved within four to five minutes. The form can be repeated if an extended practice is desired.
The book has 571 step-by-step Tai Chi photos. With these detail photos, it makes Tai Chi learning easy and fun! The unique foot panel on each step is a creative way to assist you to position your feet more precisely.

About the Author

Master Owen Liao is a licensed acupuncturist, qigong healer and Tai Chi master. Since 1992, Owen has written three books in both Chinese and English and published three Tai Chi Qigong DVDs. His latest book - Let Your Body Listen to You, 2009, bas been selling very well in Taiwan and China.

Master Owen Liao was born in 1952. His parents were farmers and lived in a rural village in northern Taiwan. At age three, he contracted polio, which paralyzed the right side of his body. Fortunately, his parents found a Chinese doctor who was able to help treat his condition. Within two years, he became much stronger physically and back on his two feet. In his village, no student had yet gone to college. Due to his mother's dream and hard work, he became the first student in his village to go to the best high school in his country. He then attended college and finished his computer science degree in 1976. Master Liao came to the United State in 1985. After pursuing a Master's degree in computer science, he worked on Wall Street as an Information Technologist.
Due to health concerns and weak constitution, Master Liao became interested in Chinese medicine. While looking for a Chinese doctor, he met the world-renowned healer, Master Tom Tam. Master Tam introduced him to Chinese medicine and Tai Chi. While continuing to work on Wall Street, he studied Chinese medicine and focused his understanding on neurological conditions. He greatly improved his post-polio syndrome and made himself much stronger. Finally, after 14 years on Wall Street, he decided to leave the highly stressful Wall Street environment and pursue his dream to become a healer. In 2002, he embraced Chinese medicine as his new career and became a national board certified acupuncturist. That same year, he founded Eastern Healing Center in Gaithersburg, Maryland. He earned his Ph.D. in Oriental Medicine from American Global University in 2006. Master Owen Liao is now a licensed acupuncturist in Maryland and Virginia. In 1994 Master Liao was accepted as a permanent member of the Chinese Traditional Medical Therapy Association.
Master Liao has gained an in-depth knowledge of Yang style Tai Chi for health purposes. He created the Yang Style Essence Tai Chi routine which consists of fifteen movements that take only four minutes to perform. This is especially appropriate for today's busy life style.
