About the Author

e.West is a writer of fiction with three works published. And more on the way:Rescue at Hiroshima, Escape from Hiroshima and The Secret History of the Nevada Navy.

Before he made his escape, e.West was a former Cold Warrior, engineer and inventor. And still invents and develops---he is currently working on a remote weapons detector, a sensing device for Swine Flu/SARS, and a lift-enhancement device for aircraft. Along the way, he scored a PhD in electrical engineering and six patents on various electromagnetic thing-o's. And designed spacecraft components that currently orbit at geosynchronous---TDRSS spacecraft---and more components that are now buried within the gas giant Jupiter with the remains of the Galileo spacecraft; and a little more infamously, with Space Shuttle Challenger, now scattered across the South Atlantic.

All that...but still not quite the techno geek. Though not an artist by any means, he illustrates---he has illustrated the complete story of Rescue at Hiroshima as a yet-unpublished graphic novel. For a bit of exercise, he does Tai Chi sword exercises in the mornings. And a pilot's license; once snap-rolling a Boeing 727 before landing at LAX in the dark with two engines out---well, in a simulator, anyway. He lives not far from Pyramid Lake Nevada with his wife Pi. They have three children, and two grandsons.

As for writing?

He has been proposing and writing about projects that the government, the military and three-letter agencies have considered science fiction for years. So why not write some good techno-fiction---with at least a bit of love interest, of course---for some appreciative readers? The three-letter agencies never much appreciating a love interest, don't you know.

The second book in the author's two-book series on the Hiroshima bombing. This one is better than the first. More character development, and I liked the battle scenes, both the flying and submarine battles. Not as much technical stuff, except for the mini-sub, which was cool. Good stuff if you like WEB Griffin and Larry Bond.

Helicopter Pirate

I don't usually read the books my husband likes, all the military action and battle gore is not for me. But this really had a good storyline about the developing relationship---can I say love story?--between teenage midshipmen--boy and girl-- and the protagonist 20-somethings, a female pilot and the marine commander. Very satisfying, though. A note to Mr. Smith--you want more girls reading your stuff? Leave out so much of that technical stuff about the submarines. I want to know more about what

Cessna Girl

Escape from Hiroshima is a continuation of the Rescue at Hiroshima novel. In this continuation, the submarine with the refugees aboard has to escape Japan's Inland Sea without getting sunk by the Japanese Navy, which thinks that the submarine's crew somehow set off the Hiroshima bomb. The relationships developed in the first book progress into new territory in the second, adding a deeper interest in the characters. The dialog between the characters is better than in the first book...
