Description: This is a wonderful book. It covers every aspect of equine dermatology in great detail, yet it is clear, concise, and easy to read. It is absolutely full of color pictures, which are essential in dermatology. The previous edition was published in 2003.
Purpose: The purpose is to provide a reference useful to students, clinicians, pathologists, and researchers. This is an important goal, as equine skin problems are commonly seen at every level of the veterinary profession.
Audience: This book would be suitable for anyone interested in this topic.
Features: Covering every aspect of equine dermatology, the book discusses diagnostics, therapy, and different conditions. I especially appreciate the separate chapters on diagnostics and therapy. The illustrations are the best part of the book, making the disease descriptions so much clearer to readers. Numerous tables summarize information, making it an easily accessible reference when working on a clinical case. The book also has a good level of detail about the rarer conditions, which reflects the experience of the authors.
Assessment: This book offers a greater level of detail than other books (e.g. Practical Equine Dermatology, Lloyd (Iowa State Press, 2003). The second edition is justified because of the advances in therapy.
