About the Author

Elizabeth Wormeley Latimer (1822–1904) was a British translator and author of popular history. She attended the funeral of William IV, saw Victoria enter Westminster for her coronation, and witnessed the funeral of Napoleon. She is the author of France in the Nineteenth Century and The Last Year of the Nineteenth Century, among other works.
