About the Author

Dr. Douglas B. Reynolds holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and a PhD in Economics, specializing in energy. Dr. Reynolds worked as an engineer in the aerospace and defense industry in the 1980s and taught economics in Kazakstan, a former Soviet republic, just after the fall of communism. Currently Dr. Reynolds is a professor of oil and energy economics at the University of Alaska Fairbanks and has been there since 1997. He has lived and worked in a number of countries around the world including Norway, Kazakstan, Russia, Mexico, Poland, and France. Dr. Reynolds has completed a number of consulting jobs for the State of Alaska and has published a number of academic articles and books on oil and energy economics including a neo-classical economic explanation of the Hubbert curve. He currently heats his home with a coal boiler system and commutes by bike whether it is 90 above or 50 below.
