Overview

If your faith seeks understanding, if you are enduring in doubt ... these words are written for you.

Originally conceived in the mind of a stubborn theology student at a small Franciscan University, this work represents the culmination of nearly a decade of thought in development. Reaching to all fields of human knowledge to discover who we are and without hesitation in understanding the human role in a nearly incalculable universe, it can be observed that human faith, human hope and human love reveal the infinite nature and meaning of a small and seemingly insignificant creature floating on a pale blue speck in the darkness of a universe prone to decay. To that end, it can also be observed that through human love this thing we call the universe may have a reason to hope in the future. When we observe the universe with no sense of hope, we find little reason to love and quickly lose our faith. When we understand properly the role of the human being we can usher in a new era of human existence.

The initial ideas presented in this book resulted from a conversation with the authors dear friend. Over the course of a decade, as he matured into an adult he became somewhat warped and eventually brought serious doubts to the scriptural story which prevented him from having authentic faith in Christ. He understood the modern world as somewhat disconnected to the world of Scripture. He wanted his faith to grow deeper but had no clear direction on how to accomplish that.

Because of this far too common situation, a lack of faith, hope, love and vision for our future, it seems more than reasonable to reach to the various fields of science and the humanities to provide context to modern day evangelization. However, this method needs the same discipline and tact that the study has always demanded from those in the trenches.

Informed by Scripture, Tradition, Science and human reasoning, this work addresses and attempts to resolve the following issues:

  • The nature of Christ

  • The nature of the Church

  • What is sin? What is Love?

  • How can science currently inform these matters?

Throughout, other topics are addressed:

  • Evolution

  • Why is Mary so special?

  • Demons and the supernatural

  • Trinity, Eucharist, Sacrament and Mass

  • The collective human vocation

This work as it stands today directly results from many conversations and questions engaged in the company of both college students and 8th grade students. The questions asked and answered are from the real world and represent the focus and ethos of the emerging generation (as a collective work this book holds the potential to inform audiences throughout the ages). It is recommended, after reading this work, that you reach to the authors original, Vocation and Communion, available exclusively through B&N, to gain further insight into the research behind this vision. Enjoy!
