Overview

The term investment has a rather precise meaning in the literature of economic theory. Typically it includes net additions to the capital stock of society. By capital stock of society is meant those goods which are used in the production of other goods. This is a gross societal, or aggregate point of view. The definition implies that in society there are number of goods (such as building and equipment) which are used to produce other goods, and that these means of production are considered part of the capital stock of society. The everyday usage of the term 'investment' can mean a variety of things, but to the man on the street it usually refers to a money commitment of some sort. For example, a commitment of money to a new ear is certainly in ''investment" from an individual's point of view but these are in very general and very extended sense. if the word since no rate of return is involved, nor is a financial return or capital growth expected. This work, in two volumes, contains highly useful material on all aspects of Investment management. This will prove of utmost use to academics and Professionals alike.
