About the Author

Patrick Gomella is uniquely qualified to write this title. He graduated Penn State University with a BS in Biology and minor in Movement Science, and also has a Masters in Public Health, and is a nationally-certified Paramedic through Thomas Jefferson Hospital. He is also a certified firefighter and NREMT-B, and in addition to having experience in the field, he is certified as an EMS instructor. He is the son of Leonard Gomella, who authored Clinician's Pocket Drug Reference, and Clinician's Pocket Reference.

Description: This is an update of a succinct guide to most drugs, including street drugs, for emergency medicine physicians and EMS staff. In addition to brief descriptions, it includes tables that address common drugs groups and scales/scores of several conditions.
Purpose: With its ease of use and the comprehensive information, the book achieves its goal of serving as a quick reference for drugs and conditions.
Audience: The audience is emergency services staff at many levels, including students, residents, practicing physicians, nurses, and paramedics.
Features: The book breaks down the drug categories into prehospital drugs seen in the field, prescribed medications, medical herbs, street drugs, and tables of drugs and useful scales. All drugs include trade names and generic names.
Assessment: Although this is similar to other drugs guides, the additional tables and the overall organization make it easier to use for EMS staff. This is the most useful, comprehensive, and updated drug guide for EMS staff.
