Emptied Out: A Personal Journey Through Lent
"What’s the difference between a wooden flute and a stick in the mud? The stick in the mud is full of itself. The flute has been emptied of itself so that it can make beautiful music.”

The 40 days of Lent offer pilgrims a chance to journey slowly and intentionally toward the cross of Jesus. This book serves as a trail guide. Weaving personal stories with reflections on scripture and original photography, Norris invites readers to join him on a personal journey through the season of Lent. Though the process of emptying be painful, Norris serves as a trustworthy guide to call attention to the music of God that rises within each heart and resonates with all creation.

About the Author

Steven is a husband, father, pilgrim, student, poet, singer/songwriter, pastor, worship leader, trombonist, guitarist, missionary, fire chaplain, novice runner, amateur photographer, nature lover, incessant collector of books, and lover of music (ALL music). He is awed and brought to tears by the beauty of nature, the laughter of a child, and the thought that even though his wife knows all his faults, she loves him anyway.

He is a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi (music), the North Carolina School of the Arts (music), and the Gardner-Webb University School of Divinity (missiology). He feels that his greatest education, though, has come from the many pilgrims he has met along the way who have allowed him to share sections of the journey with them.

Steven currently lives outside of Asheville, N.C. with his wife, two boys, mom, and dog Gretchen. He is the pastor of Ecclesia, a nontraditional community of faith that meets in a renovated honkey-tonk bar.
