Overview

YOU CAN OWE A TAX
WITHOUT HAVING THE CASH TO PAY IT!

Navigate the "minefield" of special tax rules and investment risk with insights that employees who receive stock options will find invaluable, in a "plain talk" explanation that doesn't require a lot of tax knowledge.

Here are the three types of employee stock options discussed:

• Incentive stock options
• Nonqualified stock options
• Employee stock purchase plans

Includes a chapter on stock grants (RSUs), an explanation of how the dreaded "alternative minimum tax" applies to the exercise of incentive stock options, and an Options Comparison Chart to highlight the differences of the options.

"During the tech boom, Silicon Valley workers had surprisingly few places to turn for help with their stock options. Mike Gray was one of them, providing an authoritative voice of prudence in a time of irrational exuberance. Steeped in the complexities of tax laws and strategies, he was among the first to co-author a primer to help workers understand how options worked and how to take money off the table."
