About the Author

Kate DePalma was born and raised outside Nashville, TN, USA. As Senior Editor at Barefoot Books, she has helped develop dozens of picture books, as well as authoring her own, including those published under her pseudonym, Sunny Scribens. She holds an M.A. in Classics from the University of Texas and is also a published poet and scholar. Kate lives with her husband and daughter in Pennsylvania, USA.

Nelleke Verhoeff started her career performing shows for children, but then discovered her passion for art. She has since illustrated several books and was a finalist in the Silent Book Contest at the 2018 Bologna Children’s Book Fair. Nelleke lives in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

This is sourdough, and Cora learns that part of what makes this bread unique are the bacteria and fungi growing inside of it. Uncle JB shows Cora how to feed the bread, and soon Cora is measuring flour and water and making sure the bread has the correct amount of each. What Cora doesn't expect is how fast it grows! Soon the house is full of containers and jars of bread, and Cora and her moms begin to bake some to make room for more. The bread is delicious, and Cora decides to share the bread at the community center, where she teaches others how to make their own sourdough bread. This humorous story provides a look at the characteristics of sourdough and is complemented by recipes for kids. The Spanish text includes details on making bread as well as a silly take on Cora's relatable struggles to keep the "pet" in check, while the whimsical illustrations are as unique as sourdough itself.
