About the Author

T. Jackie Cuevas is an Assistant Professor of Latina/o Literary and Cultural Studies in the Department of English. Her research focuses on questions of gender and sexuality in Latina/o literature. Prior to UTSA, Cuevas was an Assistant Professor of Women’s and Gender Studies at Syracuse University, where she served as a member of the Democratizing Knowledge public humanities project founded by Chandra Talpade Mohanty. At UTSA, Cuevas teaches courses on Latina/o literature, with many of her courses cross-listed with Mexican American Studies and Women’s Studies. In 2016, she was nominated for the UTSA President’s Distinguished Award for Teaching Excellence and the UT System Board of Regents Teaching Award. She is a faculty coach for PIVOT first-generation students, and the UTSA McNair Scholars Program named her 2017 Mentor of the Year. Cuevas served as a National Delegate for the Modern Language Association (MLA) from 2011 to 2013 and is currently serving on the MLA Chicana/o Literature Executive Committee (2017-2022). Cuevas also belongs to the Macondo writing collective founded by author Sandra Cisneros.
