Frankfurt am Main, es sollte eine Ballonfahrt vom Theaterplatz werden, doch der Ich-Erzähler wird von den drei Stadtverordnete, die am Flug teilnehmen wollten, versetzt. Um die vielen Zuschauer nicht zu enttäuschen, beschließt der Ballonfahrer alleine aufzusteigen. Im Augenblick des Starts springt ein Fremder zu ihm in die Gondel und zwingt ihn immer höher zu steigen.
