"This typically bizarre bit of Eurosleaze from the legendary Jess Franco (the filmmaker who practically defined high-gloss sexploitation from the Continent) gets an appropriately well-crafted presentation in this release from Blue Underground. Venus in Furs has been transferred to disc in letterboxed format at the film's original widescreen aspect ratio of 1.85:1, which has also been enhanced for anamorphic play on 16 x 9 monitors. The print used looks sharp, clean, and colorful, and the high-bit transfer spills every glorious detail onto your monitor. The Dolby Digital Mono transfer is slightly less impressive, but the English-language audio is enjoyably crisp and well detailed; unfortunately, no subtitles or multiple language options have been included. Blue Underground has also tricked out this edition with some fine relevant bonus materials, including an exclusive onscreen interview with Jess Franco, an audio-only interview with his frequent leading lady Maria Rohm (nicely illustrated with vintage film stills), the film's original trailer, a gallery of stills and promotional materials, and a biography of Franco by Tim Lucas (of Video Watchdog Magazine), which can be accessed on computers equipped with DVD-ROM drives. Anyone who grooves on the lush decadence of Jess Franco's movies or enjoys classic Eurosleaze in general will be more than happy with this excellent package from Blue Underground."
