The A&E/History Channel original documentary Time Machine: Aftershock - Beyond the Civil War revisits the late-19th century period of American history known as the post-Civil War Reconstruction, and promptly dispels the common myth of that period as a serene era. Via archival illustrations, dramatic recreations and accounts by historians, the program unearths horrifying truths of the race riots, tax riots, carpetbagging, Klan activity and domestic terrorism that plagued the country - suggesting that this era was not in any way peaceful or placid but rife with violence, bloodshed and strife, and thus, every bit as terrifying as the war itself.
