This made-for-TV movie -- which became the pilot for a television series that, like this film, was inspired by Stephen King's novel of the same name -- gets a glossier-than-expected release on DVD. The Dead Zone (not to be confused with David Cronenberg's 1983 film, also based on King's novel) has been brought to disc in a letterboxed transfer at the aspect ratio of 1.85:1, which has been enhanced for anamorphic playback on widescreen monitors. The audio (in English only) has been mastered in Dolby Digital Stereo, and along with English and Spanish subtitles, it features closed captioning in English. In addition to the main feature, the disc also includes a commentary track with contributions from leading man Anthony Michael Hall, the show's creator and head writer Michael Piller, and actors Nicole de Boer and Chris Bruno. The disc also includes a trailer, photos, and a sneak peek at what's in store for the show's second season.
