Best known for its reckless rehashing of the first film, Silent Night, Deadly Night 2 still packs a wallop of its own thanks to the wildly over-the-top performance from Eric Freeman as the sequel's bloodthirsty killer. With out of control eyebrows and a line delivery sent down from the B-movie heavens, Freeman single-handedly brings down the house each and every time he appears onscreen. Acting as a bookend to the 40-odd minutes of footage from the original slasher-holiday classic, this sequel's main baddie has a ball narrating the old footage to make it look as if they were flashbacks, though his real time to shine is later when the picture kicks it into high gear hilarity during the suburban rampage that closes the film. And though most view the film as redundant, the extra entertainment value Freeman adds to the best-of reel from the first film makes this follow-up on par, if not a better watch than the original. There's always something special about re-edited films, and this platter of kitschy pleasure is no different, thanks to the gods of hammy acting and no-budget production costs.
