Overview

Everyone's favorite teenage monster-chasers head to the Highlands in this made-for-cable animated adventure. Scooby-Doo (voice of Frank Welker) and the rest of the Mystery Machine gang -- Shaggy (voice of Casey Kasem), Fred (also voiced by Welker), Daphne (voice of Grey DeLisle), and Velma (voice of Mindy Cohn) -- are invited to Scotland by Daphne's cousin, Shannon (also voiced by DeLisle), who is presenting the first-ever Loch Ness Highland Games on the grounds of the family estate, located on the banks of the famous lake; however, the equally famous Loch Ness monster has been sighted near the castle, scaring away more than a few prospective athletes. Daphne and her pals offer to track down the truth about the monster, and they get some help from Fiona Pembroke (voice of Sheena Easton), a college professor who has been studying the monster, as well as Del (voice of Jeff Bennett), a local character with a passionate interest in "Nessie." They also have to contend with Sir Ian Locksley (also voiced by Bennett), a bitter skeptic who runs interference against their efforts.

After unmasking the Creepy Heap from the Deep, the Ghost of Mr. Hyde, the Phantom of Vasquez Castle, and other costumed ghouls, those meddling kids from Mystery, Inc. finally get around to Scotland's mythical beast, the Loch Ness Monster. Fred, Velma, Shaggy, and Scooby accompany Daphne to her ancestral castle for the first-ever Loch Ness Highland Games. But a smashing entrance by the monster puts the contests on hold. "Is this just another big fake?" asks Fred. Longtime Scooby watchers will say yes, but keep your kilts on. While there are the usual obvious suspects, this produced-for-video Scooby feature does have some surprises in store, not the least of which is some above-average animation, particularly the computer-generated Nessie. It also serves up a rare dish that Scooby and Shaggy are too sheepish to eat: haggis!
