Fans of the apocalypse-themed novel on which this film is based will be fairly pleased with its treatment on DVD. The full-frame picture is sharp and clear, although decidedly unspectacular. The sound is decent. Even though it's in Dolby 2.0, there are a few scenes that offer some excellent sound usage. There are also extras, the most notable being a comprehensive behind-the-scenes look at the making of the film. In addition, viewers can watch a message from star Kirk Cameron that details the film's unique marketing strategy (it was released on VHS and DVD in fall 2000, followed by a theatrical run in February 2001), as well as detailed bios and a handful of trailers for similar films. There has been word that a widescreen, extras-laden edition is somewhere in Left Behind's future. In the meantime, this version, while not enough to bowl fans over, offers just enough to keep them satisfied.
