Overview

In this exploitation film, a sadistic juvenile delinquent stabs a matron and sets fire to the reformatory where she has been staying. After busting out, she heads to the house of an aspiring politician. The voluptuous fugitive is difficult to resist, and soon she is busily destroying the man's life.

Kitten with a Whip -- a piece of potent, lurid fluff from bottom-feeding writer-director Douglas Heyes -- nearly lives up to the shrill promise of its title. Starring John Forsythe as a dry young senator and Ann-Margaret as a pretty (though schizoid) reform school escapee, Kitten crawls along at a low, sexy simmer as the temptress hatches her blackmail plan, point-by-hothouse-point. A few elements of this flinty, sadomasochistic thriller must be more than coincidental, such as pheromone-fatale Ann-Margaret's name (Jody, so close to JD that her delinquency is unquestionable). There's also the uncredited echo of Henry Mancini's Touch of Evil theme, its sax-y cha-cha heralding the inevitable fatal plunge below the San Diego-Tijuana border. Viewed today, Kitten with a Whip is square cousin of Faster Pussycat, Kill, Kill and an important prequel to the shamelessly arch kink of Freeway 2: Confessions of a Trick Baby.
