Directed by Phyllis Nagy, this historical drama is set in late 1960s Chicago, when abortion was illegal in America. Typical middle-class suburban housewife Joy (Elizabeth Banks) develops a serious heart condition due to her pregnancy. The medical establishment with an all-male board votes not to terminate her pregnancy, even if it could kill her. Desperate for a solution, she discovers the Jane Collective, a group of feminists who assist women in undergoing abortions the safe way. Things go well until authorities get wind of their activities. Co-starring Kate Mara and Sigourney Weaver.
