Overview

"William Lustig's Blue Undergournd continues building its reputation as the premier distributor of often neglected chillers with their near perfect two-disc release of the George A. Romero/Dario Argento collaboration Two Evil Eyes. Presented in 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen, the image in both segments is bold and clean. Given that much of film takes place in dimly lit interiors, the photography is presented very effectively and lends the perfect air of claustrophobia to both Romero and Argento's contributions. Multiple audio tracks presented in DTS 6.1, Dolby Digital 5.1 and Dolby Surround 2.0 are likewise effective, featuring numerous subtle directional effects that will no doubt have viewers nervously peeking over their shoulders towards the climax of the first segment. As great as the presentation of the feature is, it's Blue Underground's attention to detail in the extra features category that truly makes this disc shine. Beginning with a revealing featurette entitled ""Two Masters' Eyes,"" interviews with Romero and Argento detail everything from their sincere respect for each other's work, to the manner in which the production changed from conception to execution, to Argento's intense taste for buffalo wings. An interview with special-effects artist Tom Savini provides interesting background, and Claudio Argento likewise speaks openly and enthusiastically about the production. Yet another featurette entitled ""Savini's EFX"" provides viewers with all the gory details, and the featurette ""At Home with Tom Savini"" gives a rare glimpse into the make-up master's remarkable prop collection and a few interesting pet projects. Wrapping things up, an interview with actress Adrienne Barbeau offers a warm tribute to Romero from the actress who chilled audiences in Creepshow, and rounds the disc out nicely. In a perfect world a commentary track by Argento and Romero would be the crowning jewel on this disc, but alas the world is far from it, leaving this otherwise remarkably comprehensive disc the perfect addition to any serious horror fan's collection."
