A dark but extremely entertaining fantasy, courtesy of one-time Monty Python cohorts Terry Gilliam and Michael Palin, Time Bandits spotlights Craig Wornock as Kevin, the son of two grotesquely dull parents. Kevin is whisked away to a thrilling adventure by six capricious dwarves, who are being pursued by the disgruntled Supreme Being (Ralph Richardson). The dwarves have in their possession a map, charting various "holes" in the universe. Before Kevin quite knows what is happening, he is hopscotching through time, meeting the likes of Robin Hood (John Cleese), Agamemnon (Sean Connery), Napoleon (Ian Holm) and various and sundry other historical oddities. Don't write off Time Bandits as a kiddie movie, lest you be unprepared for the surprisingly apocalyptic finale. Despite its grim undertones, the film is a smorgasbord of slapstick and verbal witticisms.
