Overview

India boasts a vigorous movie industry and an avid fan base of 100 million. When a major star dies in India, multitudes of grieving fans take to the streets in a way that hasn't been seen in America since the death of Valentino. Based in Bombay, "Bollywood" cranks out well over 700 feature motion pictures annually, rivaling Hollywood at its peak in the 1940s. Indian music is a crucial component of the country's movies. Even gangster dramas will halt for a traditional music and dance interlude. This hour-long documentary profiles Bollywood and its A-list players, including musical director Kalyani Anandji, singer Lata Mangeshkar, and actor Raj Kapoor. Highlights include location and recording studio footage.
