"What happens to married love as the years go by? Director Rob Reiner tries to explain it all in the Bruce Willis/Michelle Pfeiffer tearjerker The Story of Us. Universal has done very nice work on this 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer. Although the image in The Story of Us suffers from slight imperfections during a few key scenes (most notably at night with heavy grain and dirt), this is a solid DVD overall, with bright colors and even black levels. Audio is presented in Dolby Digital 5.1 as well as DTS. Both of these tracks are clear and concise, with dialogue, music, and effects mixed evenly. Since The Story of Us is a dramatic, dialogue-driven film, the audio on both tracks is -- not surprisingly -- underwhelming. Also included on this disc are English captions. The Story of Us features a few bright extra features that should please fans. A commentary track by director Rob Reiner is enlightening, if a tad bit monotone, as he discusses the reasoning behind making the film, casting choices, and other tidbits about the production. ""Spotlight on Location"" is a short 20-minute featurette featuring interviews with the cast and crew of The Story of Us. Finally there are some production notes, cast and filmmaker biographies, and theatrical trailers for other Universal films like Nutty Professor II: The Klumps, The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle, and The Story of Us. If you're looking for a well-stocked disc and a long cry on a Friday night, then by all means pick up The Story of Us."
