British stage and screen veteran Edward Woodward found considerable success Stateside as private detective Robert McCall -- the titular Equalizer -- in this suspenseful drama series. Mysterious and sophisticated, McCall left behind his life as a shadowy government agent and now atones for the sins of his past by helping his desperate clients fight battles they've lost hope of winning. Through 22 gripping episodes, McCall protects innocent people who feel they have nowhere else to turn, using his spook-tested means to achieve just ends. The role earned Woodward a string of Emmy nominations and, in the show's second season, a Golden Globe award. This first-season set (1985-86) includes guest turns by Luis Guzman, Bradley Whitford, Melissa Joan Hart, and Tony Shalhoub, as well as Robert Lansing in his recurring role as Control, McCall's former boss at the "Company."
