The CBS documentary series On the Road with Charles Kuralt bore one of the more unique premises in late 20th century television. Essentially a very low-key series of human interest chronicles, it witnessed Kuralt and his camera crew tooling around the United States in a motor home and filming profiles of the interesting Middle Americans they happened to meet - people such as a toy repairman, a farmer who doubled as a slingshot-maker, and any number of traffic cops. So popular was Kuralt's series, in fact, that it evolved from a regular segment on The CBS Evening News with Walter Cronkite into its own stand-alone program, and remained on the air for a whopping 20 years total. This "best-of" collection (Volume Two in a series devoted to the program) offers 18 full episodes of Kuralt's series, plus bonus features including an 'About On the Road' segment, updates of various 'Road' characters, and a Kuralt biography.
