"Those wacky sex-starved teens from American Pie are back for a second helping in the raunchy American Pie 2. Universal has done a very nice job on this 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer. Except for a smidgen of edge enhancement, this transfer looks very well rendered and even. The colors all appear bright and bold without any color bleeding or digital artifacting popping up anywhere. The audio is presented in Dolby Digital 5.1 as well as DTS Surround in English. Both of these tracks sound good, though surround sounds are generally focused on background noise or bass-thumping rock songs. All aspects of the dialogue, effects, and music are clear of any distortion or hiss. Also included on this disc are English and French subtitles. Much like the original American Pie, this sequel includes a multitude of extra features. To start with, there are four commentaries: one by director J.B. Rogers, a second by screenwriter Adam Herz, a third by cast members Jason Biggs, Mena Suvari, and Thomas Ian Nicholas, and a fourth by actor Eddie Kay Thomas. Each of these tracks includes a lot of information about the making of the film, both technical and storywise, and are a lot of fun with the cast members having a great time throughout. Next up are some outtakes that are about five minutes long. Some original casting tapes are included that show six of the cast members auditioning for their roles, and seven deleted scenes edited together feature some extra material never seen by the public. ""The Baking of American Pie"" is a 24-minute featurette that is basically one big promotional short for the movie. ""Good Times With the Cast and Crew"" is a short without narration that takes a look at the actors having fun behind the scenes. A music-highlights section offers the viewer the chance to jump to their favorite song in the movie, while ""Your Favorite Piece of Pie"" includes the top ten scenes from both films as voted on by the fans on the web (each scene can be viewed). ""Classic Quotes"" offers 15 choices of favorite lines from the film. Finally there is a trailer with a funny introduction by star Jason Biggs as well as a trailer for The Bourne Identity, some production notes, cast and filmmaker information, an invite for the Universal DVD newsletter, a music video for the song ""Be Like That"" by 3 Doors Down, as well as some special offers (commercials) and some DVD-ROM content. There are also multiple versions of this movie available, including an R-rated version, an ""Unrated"" version with extra footage, and a pan-and-scan full-frame version. Overall, this is a very packed ""pie"" that should please fans of the series."
