Accident is director Joseph Losey and writer Harold Pinter at their most profound or most irritating, depending on one's outlook. Jacqueline Sassard plays a University student left an emotional mess after she is involved in a car accident which kills her boyfriend. Both Stanley Baker and Dirk Bogarde offer solace to Jacqueline, though it is clear to the audience that their interest in the vulnerable girl is purely sexual. Bogarde, an Oxford professor, is the more "sympathetic" of the two men; his interest in the whole affair seems to hinge on his preoccupation with the dead boy, who was one of his students. Nicholas Mosley, author of the book on which Accident was based, plays a supporting role in the film.
