Overview

This Canadian documentary examines events in Mexico after the North American Free Trade Agreement went into effect (1/1/94) and a revolution erupted in the poverty-stricken area of Chiapas where the rebel Zapatista National Liberation Army (EZLN) took control. The EZLN's tech-oriented intellectual leader Marcos became a global guerilla when he used the Internet to get his message out to the world. The EZLN took over 500 Chiapas ranches, prompting the Mexican government to send in troops, resulting in a cease-fire and stand-off. Filmmaker Nettie Wild shot on video and transferred to 16mm. Shown at the 1998 Berlin Film Festival.
