Dutch & Ella

Dutch was a beautiful, middle-aged horse with a loving personality. He lived in the State of Oregon his entire life. It was a very harsh life. He and his friends were pack horses. Beginning at a very

young age, they would strap heavy supplies on his back and force him and his friends to carry them up and down steep mountains. He and the other horses worked six days a week carrying mining equipment and other materials. It was hard work and many of the horses would often get hurt carrying such bulky loads up and down the treacherous mountains each day. The horses were tied together as they walked up and down the mountain in single file. If one of the horses became injured and had to slow down, it would cause all the other horses to slow down as well. This would anger the owners because it disrupted their schedule. They would immediately begin whipping the horses and yelling for them to keep going.
