Overview

Dive into a world where every child's unique expression is deeply appreciated.

In ancient African tradition, every new soul is welcomed at birth as an extraordinary, one-of-a-kind gift to their community. It is believed that each person carries a unique expression that nourishes their community in magical ways beyond ordinary knowing.

Duma is a boy born into the Himba tribe in Africa. He grows up learning his unique value...his "soul song." Unfortunately, his village falls on hard times and the value of each individual's soul song is threatened to be forgotten... until a magical tree whispers a sound which helps Duma remember.

The poetic storytelling of Jenny-Rebecca Lewis combined with the extraordinary beauty of Jamie Lewis's artwork lovingly invites readers into the healing power of a world where authentic personal expression - our "soul song" generates a wellbeing which endures all times, and where even the simplest harmony with nature can alchemize pain.

About the Author

Jenny grew up in New Orleans, LA and Birmingham, AL. She moved to New York and worked for 17 years at a large law firm. At 44, she woke up and remembered to find her own song, and she's been learning and listening and growing ever since. She now lives and works as a life coach in Birmingham and supports others in listening for and remembering their songs too.
She continues to listen - shoo rustle shooo!

Jamie is a teacher of art for 34 years, and has been a professional artist since the second grade. She deeply values true artistic expressions of the soul. Her work is a channel. She describes true art as an unlearning. And while she values craftmanship, she looks forward to her continued unlearning.
Every child is an artist the problem is how to remain an artist once he (or she) grows up – Picasso.
