Dreaming Together Till Morning
Lucy Jane Cranston has not a clue what to do with her life. She knows she doesn’t want to be anything like her hippie parents, Dan and Eve, with whom she lives, and feels trapped in her existence as a perpetual community college student with no goals except to keep going to school. Her love life is a mess of deadbeats and dead-ends. Then her American history professor assigns the book A Night to Remember. When she reads it on a deck chair her father purchased from a flea market, a deck chair that reportedly came from Titanic, she dreams of being on the ship as Lucy Cranston, a girl who has no direction in her life, no past, and an uncertain future. And then she meets chief wireless operator John George “Jack” Phillips, who tirelessly sent out telegraphed messages to any ship within range to save all the souls on board the ship that late night of April 14, 1912. Her discovery that she has the ability to time travel makes her feel like a god, knowing that she can change the fate of everyone on that ship by just saying, “This ship is going to sink.” Only she doesn’t remember that the ship is on a fatal journey while visiting the past, and when she finally does remember, she cannot alter the destiny of the ship without compromising her own.
