Dreaming of the Sea
After her drug-addicted mother dies, Miriam is placed in a convent by social services. For awhile, the sheltered existence is her haven. However, the safety of her sanctuary begins to stifle the day she comes across an employment ad for a caretaker in a local paper.
Like Miriam, Gertrude was an orphan. Now she's the sea witch. A long time ago, she saved the mer kingdom from extinction. As payment, she demanded the service of the mer king's second son--and every second son thereafter.
Cole is the third second son to serve the sea witch. He would do anything to return to the sea.
The novella is a retelling of Han's Christian Andersen's "The Little Mermaid."
Once Upon a Time Today is a collection of contemporary fairy tale retellings for those who have already left home. The Girl Who Believed in Fairy Tales is a prelude to the collection and includes the three short stories:
"The Girl Who Watched for Elves"
"The Girl Who Dreamed of Red Shoes"
"The Girl Who Couldn't Sing"
Novellas in the collection:
Beautiful Beautiful
Dreaming of the Sea
The Tree Hugger
I Am Lily Dane
