Now, after a three year sojourn, she returns to claim her crown and discovers sinister forces are working against her. Though able to handle a weapon as well as any man, Katerina reluctantly agrees to a personal guard. Amongst the candidates, one man emerges, the handsome but infuriating knight, Sir Logan Shepherd. Can she trust him with her secrets? Logan harbors secrets of his own. He needs to break through Katerina's defenses to earn her trust. However, Katerina is proving to be maddening as well as captivating. Can he fulfill his duty and keep his heart? Unless the prophecy is fulfilled, Latharia will be destroyed. "Get away from me!"

Almost immediately someone grabbed Randall by the shoulder and pulled him away from Kat. "I believe the lady would like you to leave her alone," Sir Logan said, firm but polite.

Randall yanked his shoulder out of Logan's hand. "I believe that this is none of your business," he snarled, nearly losing his cordial façade. He turned his back to Logan and tried to reach for Kat.

Logan quickly stepped between Randall and Kat. "I am making it my business, now begone," he said harshly.

Randall looked around as a few other knights began filtering into the garden after hearing the angry voices. "Very well." Straightening his shirt, he walked past Kat. Leaning toward her, Randall hissed, anger all but sparking from him. "But know this, milady. This is not over. I do not give up so easily." He took one last glance at the gathering knights. He then glared at Logan. "Careful, milord. Though perhaps noble, most knights would find it unwise to interfere in matters that do not concern them." He roughly shouldered Logan out of the way, stalking from the garden in obvious anger.

Logan took a step in the direction Randall had fled, then halted. He gave his attention to Lady Katerina instead.

"Are you all right, milady?" he asked, protectively putting his arm around her.

She gave an involuntary shudder, though surprisingly welcomed his comfort. "Aye, I will be fine. Thank you, Sir Logan," she said, fighting back tears. She thought she had gotten over her past, but seeing Randall again was like ripping open an old wound.
