Has earned great reviews:What's not to love about Dragonlyst: A Short Novel by Randall Seeley? It is a fantasy short story in a world where people can unexpectedly turn into dragons! I think every boy has dreamed at one time or another of dragons. Just look at all of the good books and movies about dragons: Eragon, How to Train a Dragon, Dragonheart...the list goes on. People never tire of stories about dragons and yet this story still has a unique twist to it. Not that it is about dragons so much as people becoming dragons, or people fighting for the right to become or not become dragons as they wish, and not as the government tells them to.
This is a story about secrecy, dark shadows and mystical spells, and things that go bump in the night. I enjoyed the rebelliousness of this story and the idea that we were rooting for main characters who were, in essence, lawbreakers, fighting against the Order to create a magical potion so strong that it could scientifically alter a person's ability to become or not become a dragon. I found that fascinating. And then there was the fact that you never quite knew which side the people that Jefrie worked for were on. Were they part of the Order? Were they against the Order? And most importantly, could they be trusted? If not, what would Jefrie and his uncle and his master do? - Reviewed By Janelle Fila for Readers' Favorite
