Overview

Downsized weaves three storylines together. Quade O'Bric suddenly is faced with loss of the job he loves, threat of divorce, and the apparent deception of his boss, an old friend. How he deals with these situations and the intrigue he uncovers introduces us to colorful but dangerous characters and unforeseen ties.
O'Bric is a popular sportswriter and reasonably happy until he is confronted with termination at work and the fact that his wife can no longer tolerate his drinking, overeating, and the general neglect of his family. He has to reevaluate his priorities and struggle to recover his life. Is there any hope of reconciliation and is a risky football game really the answer?

About the Author

Downsized is one of 4 novels finished over the 30 years since the author was told he had a neuro-degenerative disease (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), which would slowly take his life - doctors said he had at most five years to live. McNeill had completed 4 years in the USMC and left as a Captain. He had worked his way through a BS in English from U. of Dayton and a Masters in Business from Fairleigh Dickinson in NJ before getting married and becoming father to 3 girls. His ALS diagnosis came when he was 44, settled in a job he loved with his youngest daughter just entering second grade. The whole family was thrown into emotional and financial turmoil. Seven years later (way past his life expectancy) they moved to CA and he began writing. See his website for more information: edwardjmcneill.com.
