A surfer girl with family ties to Hawaii, she has a deep love of the ocean and all of its inhabitants. Heller spends her days as a high-school college counselor and mommy to a precocious five-year-old whose curiosity for animals became the inspiration for the book. Her hope is to inspire even the youngest readers to care for these playful marine mammals to ensure not only their conservation and protection, but that of their ocean home.
