Overview

I have always wanted to be an author. We can debate on these pages or any other forum what it means to be an author. I have written several unpublished novels. I have published articles in magazines and on web pages. Am I an author or not? Do I have to have a book published by a major publishing house?
I have long come to terms with the idea that I do not need titles bestowed up me by others to be fulfilled. I will buy the argument that I am not a nuclear physicist just because I say I am, but I past the point of arguing what defines an author.
In late 2015, I learned about a challenge to write a 50,000 word novel in one month. I did not have time to plot out a novel or even had an idea for a novel, so I had the idea to write a 1667 word essay everyday on a different topic. It seemed like a good idea. How hard could it be to write a 1667 word essay every day?
It turns out it was much harder than I thought. At the time I worked swing shift. So I would get of work at 10:00 PM. I would work out (what can I say, I'm addicted), then go home and write the essay. Some nights I was in bed by 3:00 AM, some nights it was closer to 5:00 AM.
Anyway, I persevered and completed the book at over 50,000 words. You are reading that book. I have done little to change or edit that book now. Times and people change. Attitudes change. Facts do not. People today are sometimes offended by relevant things. Others are offended by fifty year old Christmas Carols.
The essays contained herein will undoubtedly make you think. I often challenge my own thoughts. How do I know that something I believe makes sense if it does not stand up to my own scrutiny. The essays here all, in some way challenge beliefs I may have held or know others have held.
Nothing in here is controversial in the way that abortion is controversial, but the essays will challenge some of your thoughts, and hopefully provide you some laughs along the way.
