Cornetist Doc Evans was 39 when he recorded the dozen selections made available on this Folkways LP, his recording debut. The fine Dixieland player is teamed up with four all-stars (trombonist Ed Hubble, clarinetist Tony Parenti, pianist Joe Sullivan and drummer George Wettling) for six songs apiece taken from the repertoire of the Original Dixieland Jazz Band and the New Orleans Rhythm Kings. Highlights include spirited versions of "Original Dixieland One-Step," "Fidgety Feet," "Bugle Call Rag" and "Panama." Easily recommended to Dixieland fans. ~ Scott Yanow
