Overview

Do-It-Yourself Technical Analysis Simplified is for the average do-it-yourself investor. The author has created a system, Votes. Votes helps you make MORE INFORMED STOCK MARKET INVESTING choices. Votes simplifies choices via isolating specific percentages of Votes for specific timeframes. Timeframes count 3 months, 9 months, and 3 Years.

Votes uses 15 tools to measure CROWD SENTIMENT as to closing stock prices.

Votes is good for those who prefer to trade over 2–12-month cycles.

You can learn Votes in about 10-15 hours. Votes uses both free and paid apps. RStudio is free. Microsoft Excel is paid.

Part 2 of the book goes into detail as to 5 reasons for the business case for Votes.

Your analyst has used and continues to use Votes. For example, in 2022 and 2023, over about a 6-month period, your analyst bought and sold BHP.AX (Yahoo code). Your analyst made a profit of not less than 10%. In simple terms, your analyst did the following: saw 76% Votes for Yes or buy Votes for the 3 months trailing of the closing PRICES DATA (obtained from Yahoo). As a result, your analyst went ahead and bought BHP.AX. In subsequent months or periods, your analyst used Votes two more times, reviewing CROWD SENTIMENT. The second review or CHECK showed Yes or buy Votes at 63%, showing a decrease of 13% toward the attractiveness of BHP.AX as a buy prospect. This was noted. In the third and final review, your analyst crunched the numbers or Votes and found a major change. Votes showed 60% No or sell Votes. At this stage, your analyst began making offers to sell BHP.AX.

Your analyst used Votes to buy and sell BHP.AX over about a 6-month period. Buying at around $40 and selling at around $45. The costs tabulated to approximately $3,000 and revenues to around $3,500. Time spent doing the 3 reviews was about 3 to 5 hours. If you were proficient with Votes, you could review 1-5 companies in approximately 1-2 hours. Pre-populated Excel templates make that possible. Part 3 setup goes into detail as to getting going.

As an overview, the book has 8 parts.

Part 1 is a one-page Flowchart clearly showing a simple method to walk you through and to Votes-based choices. Part 2 presents a 5-point business case for the adoption or use of the Votes system. Part 3 shows you an illustrated guide on how to setup the Votes system, including downloading an Excel template file and 3 code files (for use with RStudio). At the repository, 2 extra free resources, PDFs, will also be made available.

Part 4 shows how to IMPLEMENT Votes. It guides you through and to your first Excel files. At this stage, you will have enough info to use Votes. However, your analyst recommends reading the whole book from Part 1 to Part 8 in order to make the most of the journey.

Part 5 shows optional Microsoft Access output. Not essential. But convenient. The MS Access app is good for conveniently consolidating analyses from previous steps, in RStudio and MS Excel. Part 6 is a mini case study on BHP.AX (Yahoo code). It highlights the Votes system, covering what your analyst did. Part 7 is optional. It is a series of Microsoft Access screenshots. Your analyst walks you through an alphabetical list, showing Votes output for big Australian-listed companies (market cap > 1 billion in 2022).

Part 8 is an important glossary of 17 key terms. It points to links for further reading. The first 15 links RELATE to the 15 tools or algorithms from RStudio computations. The last 2 links provide more info for FUNDAMENTAL ANALYSIS, which is a GREAT COMPLEMENT to Votes considerations.

Your analyst has a degree in accountancy and Graduate Certificate in Business---both from Western Sydney University. He lives and works in Sydney Australia.
